What Happens in a Brain Integration Session?

In recent years, the practice of bioenergetic kinesiology has become increasingly popular in the alternative medicine world. If you have never experienced a bioenergetic kinesiology session, the process of Brain Integration Technique can be difficult to envision. The following article will explain a typical Brain Integration session at McKinney Brain Integration.
Brain Integration is a Form of Bioenergetic Kinesiology
Brain Integration Technique (BIT) is one of many forms of bioenergetic kinesiology. Kinesiology sessions vary greatly between practitioners, but muscle testing is the foundation of our work. Muscle testing is an evidence based process of reading subtle changes in muscle tension as the subconscious nervous system responds to potentially stressful stimuli.
On a subconscious level, your nervous system is aware that it is not comfortable or working efficiently when faced with this challenge. It is this awareness that provides biofeedback to indicate what the body ‘likes’ or ‘dislikes.’ The ultimate goal is for the nervous system to no longer have a negative reaction to these stressors and for full cognitive function and emotional regulation to be restored.
While many styles of kinesiology address a wide variety of physical and emotional issues, BIT follows a set protocol that specifically addresses many brain areas and functions. This structure ensures that we are addressing:
A number of different brain areas and functions
How these areas interact with each other
Subconscious emotions that may be affecting how the brain work
Any “glitches” that show up during challenging mental tasks such as reading, memory recall, visio-spatial activities, math calculations, etc.
Stressors that cause the brain to “shut down” or “go blank”
The Initial Session
In the initial session I will gather a detailed history, get an understanding of your goals, and perform some initial assessments. Assessments for emotional and cognitive issues may include subjective surveys, memory tests, reading comprehension, eye motion, balance, and audiovisual integration. For physical issues, I may observe balance, posture, gait, strength, and range of motion.
After the assessments are complete we will decide if we will use the full Brain Integrated Technique protocol or a customized series of sessions based on your unique concerns. You will then will relax on your back on the massage table, completely clothed. (This position can be modified if needed- I want you to be as relaxed and comfortable as possible!).
GLOSSARY
STRESSFUL STIMULI in bioenergetic kinesiology context could be nearly anything that causes a functional glitch in the body, brain, or mind. They are often things like a memory, emotion, cognitive task, body movement, or a food sample. Stressful stimuli can be whatever evokes a response that the client came to address. While some stimuli are processed and integrated easily by the brain and body, others cause a stress response. It is the stimuli that cause a stressful response, or a resistance in the system, that we must address.
With your overall goals in mind, muscle monitoring is used to determine the body’s priority issues and how to best address them. We challenge the response of the nervous system against potential stressor to see if correction is required.
For example, if we are addressing emotional well-being, then a good stress test might be having the client imagine a troubling situation or a conflict with a problematic person. When addressing cognitive difficulties, we can muscle test while you perform memory tests, puzzles, math problems, or reading. If we are addressing physical issues testing while you walk, balance, or contract a specific muscle will show an imbalance. The variables that can be challenged and tested are infinite – this is part of what makes kinesiology so fascinating!
Once the variables are identified to show imbalances, acupressure is applied to specific points of resistance in the system to bring the body back to a state of “balance”- or correction. Thereby, supporting the body in restoring healthy function.
A typical session ranges from 90-120 minutes, however, it may be longer depending on the scheduling needs. This allows us enough time to “get in the grove” and accomplish a lot of work. Time usually passes quickly and is quite relaxing.
After Your Initial Session
After a session, most clients report feeling very relaxed and clear-minded. Many report, a feeling of joy, peace, and ease as their anxiety and stress have been significantly reduced. In some instances, individuals feel a little sleepy, other times they feel totally energized and recharged!
If you have come to McKinney Brain Integration to receive the full Brain Integration protocol, at least 12-14 hours will be required. More time may be necessary if you have complex issues such as dyslexia or PTSD. The steps of the BIT Protocol are sequential and build on each other. In order to receive complete and long lasting results, it is important that you are prepared to commit to the completion of full protocol.
If we have determined that a customized approach is best for you, several follow-up appointments are recommended within 2-3 weeks to see how your body has adjusted to any changes, assess improvements, continue our work, and ensure lasting change. At least three to five sessions are initially recommended for specific or isolated issues. Together we will determine the best pace and schedule for the situation
It is very important that clients understand that the BIT protocol is not a one-session quick fix. Completion of the ENTIRE protocol is absolutely necessary to achieve full and lasting results. Each phase of the protocol builds on the phases before it, and some of the most significant parts are at the end.
Phases of the Brain Integration Protocol
Brain Integration is a strategic process that has five distinct phases and the sessions change as the protocol progresses:
1. Assessment- during your first session we will discuss the difficulties you are experiencing and perform some mental and physical functions tests. (30 minutes)
2. Improving the subconscious access brain connections- systematically addressing multiple brain areas and functions using bio-kinesiology techniques.(5-8 hours)
3. Solidifying the Connections- engaging all parts of your brain and ensure that the newly freed connections are solid. (45-90 minutes)
4. Functional Application: Ensuring that the subconscious and conscious are working together in a variety of tasks while receiving actual sensory stimuli and performing the tasks that previously caused the glitches. This part is essential for long lasting results.(4-6 hours)
5. Balancing any emotions that may be causing these glitches “your thoughts and emotions provide a scaffolding for your mental function and physical body.” (1+ hour)
6. Follow-Up Visits: Scheduled 4-6 weeks after the completion of the protocol, this session allows us to address any remaining issues at a deeper level or address new concerns that were previously of a lesser priority. (1.5-2 hours)
By systematically working through all the phases of the Brain Integration Technique protocol we ensure that your conscious mind and your subconscious mind are communicating, that your subconscious mind can access all areas of your brain, and that they can both perform the various functions that are required to succeed in school, work, relationships, and life.
