Brain Integration is an alternative medicine technique that improves
communication in the brain to reduce symptoms of ADHD, learning
difficulties, head injuries, anxiety, and brain fog.
Its All About Connection (and Precisely Coordinated Neural Activity)
Our brains are highly complex organs that require precisely coordinated neural activity in multiple areas to work properly. The term integrated is used to describe a brain that functions efficiently. In this state, the brain receives sensory inputs relayed to other areas for processing and storage, so it can respond when appropriate.
Integrated brain function contributes to the following:
Easy learning
Handling stress more efficiently
Manage emotions effectively
Experience clarity of thought
When this coordination, or integration, does not exist (or is lost), it becomes difficult to perform the cognitive functions involved. These difficulties are often associated with a broad disturbance of brain function, such as ADHD, concussions, post-viral infections, and anxiety.
This lack of integration shows up daily as:
Learning difficulties
Poor memory
Difficulty with reading and math
Poor organization
Decreased attention
Difficulty managing emotions
Inability to find clear visions for your life; becoming “stuck”
On the other hand, the loss of brain integration may be situational and temporary; showing up when you are overstimulated or experiencing high stress. These “glitches” are often related to specific situations or a combination of stimuli. They often have a strong emotional component.
This lack of integration often appears as:
Inability to recall information during a test
The mind goes blank during a public speaking engagement
Experiencing sudden rage while getting cut off in traffic
Difficulty navigating a particularly frustrating or stressful day
Trying to focus on reading in a noisy room
Examples of Integrated and Unintegrated Brain Functions
| Integrated Brain | Loss of Brain Integration |
Functional | Good Balance Strong, fluid movements | Poor balance Clumsy, uncoordinated |
Physical/physiological | Minimal allergic reactions Hormonal balance Free from digestive issues Free from viruses, bacteria, candida | Allergies & sensitivities Hormone imbalance Digestive issues Pathogen overgrowth, illness |
Cognitive | Learns easily; Good memory; Creative Organized; Good language skills; Reading and math are flow | ADHD/ Learning difficulties Forgetful; Blocked; Poor organization; Difficulty speaking |
Emotional | Calm; Sleeps quickly and soundly; Emotional connection to others; Processes anger and disappointment; Navigates stressful situations | Anxiety, easily stressed; Insomnia; overactive brain; Relationship difficulties; Anger Issues; overthinking; overwhelm |
Higher Self | Connected to life’s purpose; Generates goals and vision for life. | Poor vision for the future; Poor sense of life’s purpose; Lacks goals; generally stuck |
Brain Integration Technique (BIT)
Brain Integration Technique (BIT) is an alternative medicine technique that uses neurophysiology, bioenergetic kinesiology, and the Chinese meridian system to improve brain function.
BIT is a specialty bioenergetic kinesiology technique that focuses specifically on reducing resistance in neural pathways to improve cognitive function and emotional well-being. It follows a semi-structured protocol to ensure that many brain areas are addressed, to optimize function by relieving cognitive stress. As a result, all parts are “online” and working together to support your full potential. Best of all, it is medication free.
BIT was initially designed to help students in a learning environment address learning difficulties such as ADD, ADHD and dyslexia. However, it has also been found to be effective in addressing other issues, such as:
Concussion and brain injury
Pathogens, toxicities, allergies, and “brain fog”
Anxiety, stress, overactive brain, and PTSD
Difficulty navigating a particularly frustrating or stressful day
Emotional regulation and behavioral challenges
The BIT Protocol
The BIT protocol addresses sensory issues related to eye movements, auditory comprehension, audio-visual integration, balance, sensory perception, memory formation, and recall. It addresses limbic system issues that can keep one’s brain in a state of hypervigilance, overthinking, or overwhelm.
The basic, but thorough, protocol takes 12-14 hours to complete, depending on the areas of concern and depth to which they are addressed. A client’s course of BIT is determined by the information on the intake forms, the results of the initial assessment, and the degree of challenge the client is experiencing. For those using Brain Integration to address dyslexia, PTSD, and other complex issues, it is expected that more hours will be required.
It is strongly recommended to complete the entire protocol to achieve the best results. Additionally, a follow-up visit (1.5-2 hours) is recommended in 4 weeks to address remaining issues at a deeper level. Some people chose to make BIT and BK appointments regularly part of their long-term wellness program, to continually address “glitches” that come up.
“The goal of BIT is to reestablish the efficient flow of neural activity and bring brain function back “online.” -- Lisa McKinney
Brain Integration can relieve or alleviate symptoms of:
ADD/ADHD, dyslexia, and other learning difficulties
Concussion and brain injury
Pathogens, toxicities, allergies, and “brain fog”

How McKinney Brain Integration Can Help
One of my specialties includes individuals experiencing life transitions – stuck-ness. Other areas of interest McKinney Brain Integration aims to help clients are chronic fatigue, brain fog (long-term COVID or Lyme Disease), and concussions, to name a few.
I customizing all sessions to fit my clients’ needs based on an in-depth consultation. My background in physical therapy, counseling, coaching, and nutrition enables me to add great intuition and depth to what I do using this alternative medicine technique. I am continually adding to my knowledge base so that I can serve my clients with the highest quality and provide the best results.
