This 30 year-old mother struggled with ADHD, long-term and post-partum anxiety, a severe head injury, and a recent emotional trauma. The following is her brain integration journey in her own words.
BACKGROUND(ADHD, Head Injury, Anxiety)
When I first heard about BIT, I had a feeling I would be the perfect candidate. I have a diagnosis of ADHD, fluctuating depression for years, multiple concussions, and had a severe injury that caused a severe brain bleed. I am now a new mom with postpartum anxiety. I am trying to keep up with the daily responsibilities and would like to go back to school so I can provide for our family
After my head injury a few years ago I was a different person. I did everything I could to regain what was left of me, but it wasn’t enough. While medication, counseling, mindfulness, diet, time outdoors, and exercise were helpful, I only saw marginal gains overall.
Challenges
ADHD
Severe Head Injury
Long History of Anxiety
Post-partum anxiety
Benefits
Significantly decreased anxiety
Decreased impulse behavior
Increased organization
Increased focus
No medication
My anxiety, relationships, executive functioning, and academic performance continued to suffer. I had resigned to the fact that I was stuck as a lesser version of myself– forever.
I was on prescription medications to address my post-partum anxiety, but because I was breastfeeding, I chose to stop taking them. I also started dreaming about nursing school, but with ADHD this would be very difficult. My ADHD was compounded by my brain injury and I constantly struggled with sleep, impulsive behaviors, “ADHD paralysis”, procrastination, reading, and poor time management. To top it off, I had recently experienced a few emotionally traumatic events in that I’m sure my body felt even if I didn’t consciously acknowledging it.
SOLUTION
I needed all the help I could get! My Brain Integration experience was the final push to help me reclaim myself, and come out better. Life is hard for everyone, but it shouldn’t be THAT hard. I wanted a chance to succeed like “everyone else” who was not neuro-divergent. BIT gave me that chance.
I am grateful that Lisa was my BIT practitioner. Rarely have I felt quite so seen, heard, validated, understood, advocated for, and supported by a professional. This no doubt played a part in how well the integration went. Lisa even took the time to look further into my specific areas of concern so that we could make the most of our future sessions. She often put my feelings into words better than I could.
It helps exponentially when in someone capable is in your corner! Lisa is a true healer and genuinely invested in the betterment of humanity through her work
RESULTS
I experienced increased ability in so many of areas of my life!
Almost immediately, my anxiety was considerably less and. This is a massive improvement in my quality of live and I am now manage life without medication. I feel like I have regained the piece of myself that was lost with my brain injury. I have less fear about pursuing school, more organization, focus, and initiative in managing a household. My balance and reaction time are also improved. This is all the result of a few sessions and without medication.
My toddler’s meltdowns were becoming less triggering to me and even more infrequent for her! I had an easier time staying away from sweets when I wasn’t hungry. I didn’t make any unnecessary purchases. I was on time for my appointments. Reading became easier, and I had more initiative to begin and finish tasks around the house.
