The many changes I have experienced with BIT have been
profound and widely varied. The more BIT I received,
the more results I experienced!
Clients often ask me what results they can expect from completing the Brain Integration Technique (BIT) Protocol, but it isn’t always a straight forward answer. Naturally, we have intended goals in mind, but the exact results the process will bring are not fully predictable.
I have a very analytical and logical mind so this was initially difficult for me to grasp. I wanted to know exactly what I was getting into, and what I was going to get out of it!
However, my own personal experiences with BIT has assured me, without a doubt, that it works. I have seen changes in myself and so many others from using these techniques. I feel that the details of my own experience is one of the best ways for me to convey what Brain Integration can do- even for someone without diagnosed learning difficulties or head injuries. Please allow me to share an honest account of my own experience with you below.
I Didn't Think Brain Integration Technique Would Help Me
I’ll be honest. Although I was hopeful, I didn’t really think that BIT would help me. Mostly, I didn’t think I needed it- at least, not enough to make such a financial investment. Looking back, I can now identify some of the reasons why:
I didn’t think Bit was for me because I did not have ADD/ADHD, learning difficulties, or memory problems. As a child and young adult, I never experienced major learning difficulties, although I later came to realize that I do have some dyslexic tendencies and difficulty with reading/language comprehension. I did well in school, become a physical therapist and went on to live a high-functioning life.
I also did not recognize the many hits to my head as minor concussions that may have resulted in minor, but cumulative, changes in cognition.
For a long time I did not recognize the extent of my anxiety because I live it out so Type A functionally. It usually looked like perfectionism, over-working, over-planning, over thinking, over organizing and solving every problem and threat that came my way. It was exhausting.
I thought the other little quirks I had were just something to live with. There were many, many, many of these but it never occurred to me that there could be another way.
My Results from the BIT Protocol
I signed up for brain integration primarily because it was a required step in pursing the BIT certification training. The practitioner conducted the 12-hour protocol over two long days for which I took time off off work. I had done my research and was very excited to see what would happen!
Some people notice immediate changes, but other than my before/after test performances in the sessions, I didn’t notice any immediate changes for many weeks. I wasn’t surprised or disappointed because, as previously mentioned, I did not really recognize some of the glitches that had been working against me for so long!
For several weeks or months there was not much in my day-to-day life that seemed much different. However, as I slowly did activities that were not in my normal routine, I began to notice that I responded to certain things differently. Some of these things were issues we intentionally worked on during my sessions but it took a while for me to be able to test the results. Other changes I noticed were a complete surprise! Here are a few examples:
I have always been an introvert by nature; typically liking the idea of large social interactions far more than the actual events. I found gatherings and groups awkward and highly draining. About 7 months after my BIT protocol I unintentionally found my social calendar had somehow gotten jam packed for several weeks on end. It was only after it had passed that realized I had socialized and entertained groups of people for days and weeks in a row without any drain to my energy reserve– I felt fulfilled and surprisingly energized! I’m thrilled that even now my capacity for groups and events remains much higher than before!
I had suffered extreme motion sickness in cars and on boats for decades. After the Brain Integration protocol, and a a few follow-up sessions to specifically address this issue I found that my symptoms, although not gone, were greatly reduced. I can now look at texts and turn to the backseat, and I have a greater tolerance to windy mountain roads.
Similarly, I had always found certain visual stimuli very difficult to tolerate- it was too overstimulating. Even looking at lake water from a dock or videos of mountain biking (or other fast motion) would make me feel dizzy and cause a headache that would last for hours. After my BIT protocol I was thrilled to find that I could now- for the first time- look through binoculars and kaleidoscopes and watch my husbands Go-Pro biking videos! I probably will never chose to go to an Imax theater or play a lot of video games, but this was a HUGE win for me!
My confidence and skills on my mountain bike improved in a general way. I was more grounded and calm. I felt that my I could visually interpret my surroundings better and respond to the bike more quickly. Cliff ledge exposure did not cause quite so much fear! (I am still working on this!) This resulted in a safer, less anxious and much more fun ride!
My BIT practitioner addressed my sensitivity to artificial scents which did result in a moderate improvement to things such as laundry detergents and perfumes.
I experienced an immediate reduction in my “sweet tooth!” — this was appreciated for obvious reasons!
My ability to distinguish between left and right has always been an embarrassing problem. Even with a 50/50 shot of getting it right, I would choose incorrectly most of the time. This was certainly inconvenient and frustrating when acting as my husband’s co-pilot in the car; but it was downright dangerous when attempting to communicate hazardous drops and obstacles on a mountain bike trail to the riders behind me. After BIT this got moderately better, especially initially. I feel that further work on this topic could resolve this issue, but I have not yet pursued it.
More BIT Sessions Produced Even More Results!
In the year and a half that followed, I received additional work that was outside of the “normal” BIT protocol. Sometimes the techniques were performed on me, and sometimes I performed them on myself. The many, many changes I have experienced with this have been profound and widely varied. It showed me the value of continuing on with BIT even after the protocol is completed because it allowed me and the practitioner to work on issues as they organically showed up in my life. Here are just a few:
Several months after I had recovered from COVID I still could barely smell or taste some of my favorite flavors. I have very few vices, but red wine, chocolate, and jasmine tea make the list and I could not taste them at all. I volunteered to have this issue balanced as part of a class demonstration and two days later my ability to taste and smell them was restored ay about 70%. Within the next week or two had fully returned.
I have always tended to feel very cold physically- it was a nearly constant state. Even in the summer I disliked feeling breezes moving over my skin. The practitioner did some BIT balances on the areas of the brain that deal with temperature sensing, memory and emotions related to being cold. Since then I have enjoyed a decreased sensitivities both to being to cold in general and to air moving over my skin. While I still tend to feel chillier than others, my overreaction is much less extreme that it was.
Significantly reduced fear of public speaking and delivering a presentations- something I have gone through great lengths to avoid for my entire career. This has been a focus in several BIT sessions as it was a deep rooted and stubborn problem for me! It is a huge achievement for me to be able get through even a simple presentation without shaking, dread, and without stuttering or my mind going entirely blank. While I can’t say that I will ever be one to crave a public speaking opportunity, I can say that I now enjoy it a little! Another big win!
I have suffered from restless leg syndrome since I was a teenager. It is worst when sitting on the sofa at night and can often make trying to enjoy a conversation or movie unbearable. Out of curiosity I tried muscle reactivation on myself for the first time in attempt to lessen some of the symptoms. To my surprise, it reduced the immediate sensations by about 90%. They remained significantly reduced for months after that one intervention.
BIT decreased the stress and apprehension I felt while starting my new business and working out challenges in my other. Several sessions using a variety of BIT techniques really helped me to overcome the emotional humps and confidently find my steps forward.
What I learned from these experiences is that there are TREMENDOUS benefits to continuing BIT work after the protocol is complete.
It has allowed me to address some of my original concerns at a much deeper level. Additionally, it allowed me to address a whole variety of quirks that I had not even originally recognized or considered. This further work also gave me tools to assist in the changes and help me to enhance my progress!
One of my favorite things about BIT is that it can cut right to the chase. It addresses the neurological firing in the brain rather than the processing of thoughts and emotions.
However, I have often found “talk therapy” to be frustrating and not as productive as I would like. One of the best parts about BIT is that it creates significant changes in emotional reactivity and response without having to continue to process the same past information and events. This is because it quickly balances much of the emotional glitch that is causing me difficulty in my present day life!
One quirky caveat of BIT that I have learned to appreciate is that the results cannot be fully predicted. Naturally, we have our goals and intentions in mind, but in reality you may see a BIT practitioner for memory and organization and later find that you have of improved ability to drive a night or greater ease following the conversation of a group in a loud room. Everyone’s results and experience is unique and different- its actually part of the fun!
These are the basic nuts and bolts of my initial personal experience as a recipient of Brain Integration Technique. BIT is not a magic bullet for every problem, but I have found it to be an extremely valuable modality that has created significant improvements in a great variety of issues I have struggled with to varying degrees.
Now as a practitioner, I have helped so many people have similarly amazing results. I absolutely LOVE what I do every day and am always delighted by the outcomes!

I have great respect for therapists and counselors and have an educational background in counseling myself.
